Meet Adrian Martinez

Adrian Martinez, born on January 20th, 1972, is an American actor and comedian known for his work in film, television, and theater. He began his acting career in 1993 with a role in America’s Most Wanted, and since then he has built an impressive portfolio with over 120 film and TV credits. Martinez is best known for his roles in The Guilty, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal for Netflix, I Feel Pretty with Amy Schumer, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, where he played alongside Ben Stiller, and Focus, in which he shared the screen with Will Smith and Margot Robbie.

Martinez’s talent isn’t confined to acting alone; he is also a director, writer, and producer. His directorial debut, iGilbert, based on his original screenplay, has gained much critical acclaim. The film, purchased by Gravitas Ventures, is now available on major streaming platforms in the US and Canada. iGilbert has been recognized and archived by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and won both Best Feature and the Audience Award at the London Film Festival. Beyond iGilbert, Adrian’s recent work includes starring in the Netflix film Unfrosted, directed by Jerry Seinfeld, and acting in the feature film The Amateur opposite Rami Malek for Disney.

In addition to his film career, Martinez has made significant appearances on television. He has had roles in series like Blue Bloods, No Activity (with Will Ferrell), Severance, Only Murders in the Building (with Selena Gomez), Sugar, Renfield (with Awkwafina), and Ghosts, as well as Stumptown (with Cobie Smoulders) and The Blacklist: Redemption. He is also active in theater and is a member of the LAByrinth Theater Company. Through his production company, Paloma Pictures Inc., Adrian continues to develop new projects, showcasing his creativity and passion for storytelling.

New The Big Deal Episode: Adrian Martinez and the New Planet of the Apes

In this episode, our hosts Nicky and Dakyta sat down with Adrian to talk about his busy career and the importance of always hustling. When Nicky asked Adrian, “You are on so many exciting TV shows, when do you sleep?” Adrian joked, “I’m sleeping right now, this is a hologram, I’m not even here.”

On a more serious note, he shared some motivating words about his work ethic and dedication. “I love working. I feel like the most important thing in my life is my family, but right there is my career. Because I just feel like once you are an actor, once you are an artist, if you don’t honor it, it haunts you. And I don’t wanna live a haunted life. So I show up every day, whether I’m filming or not, trying to get work, trying to motivate people who are just starting, trying to keep going, filming, self-tapes, whatever it is, I don’t care what it is. Keep going. As Latinos, we never stop hustling, you have to keep moving. If you wanna be in this business, no juega. Every day, whether you are filming or not, get after it.” he said.

But that’s not all! Nicky and Dakyta also gave us a special sneak peek at the new Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes movie while discussing the buzz surrounding it. One particular funny moment was when Dakyta admitted she didn’t recognize the title at first because she only knew the old film’s name in Spanish, Planeta de los Simios. Once she realized which movie Nicky was talking about, she confessed, “I’ve never seen it either.”
