Iconic and Impactful Mujeres Gathered for Billboard’s Women in Music

Billboard Music magazine presents the Women in Music Awards annually to honor the work of artists, creators, producers and executive women with a rising career and who have brought new ideas to the music industry in recent years. These #MujeresInCharge came from all around the globe to celebrate the Women in Music Gala last night at the YouTube theater in Los Angeles. Among the winners, Rosalia received the first Producer of the Year award of the night.
Ivy Queen was another one of the winners of the night. She received The Icon Award from Bad Bunny, who appeared unexpectedly on the stage to express how proud she felt of La Diva del Reggaeton.
“What I have from Ivy Queen in my musical DNA is what has made me work twice as hard to shut up mouths, always feeling proud of who I am, as she has done,” said Benito.Ivy Queen took the floor to talk about how difficult it was for her to gain a space as a woman in the reggaeton genre, which until before her, had been led by men.
“I want to call on all Latin and American women in the industry to never let them separate and divide us again,” said the “Yo quiero bailar” singer.
The celebration of Latin women continued throughout the night with The Impact Award for Becky G, who also sang an acoustic version of the song “Mamiii.”
The Mexican-American singer proudly celebrated her Chicano roots and encouraged those young people who, like her, wanted to make music and at some point made them feel that they would not make it.
“It is worth the effort to achieve it, only then can we make an impact,” she said. See her full speech below:
