Adele: 30 (2021) – 838,000

The second highest selling comeback since 2020 is the triumphant return of soul and pop powerhouse Adele.

After a 6 year absence since her last album ‘25’ in 2015, Adele’s ‘30’ immediately stormed the charts as patient fans finally got what they waited over half a decade for. Despite Adele having the poorest sales figures since her debut album, it still dominated the charts which says a lot about music consumer habits nowadays.

The Weeknd: After Hours (2020) – 444,000

Despite The Weeknd releasing an EP and some new material during the 4 years between his 2016 album ‘Starboy’ and ‘After Hours’, fans eagerly awaited a new studio album.

Once it arrived in early 2020, it had a blinding chart performance selling 444,000 copies in the first week of its release and went on to win 4 awards.

Kendrick Lamar: Mr Morale and the Big Steppers (2022) – 295,000

After a 5 year hiatus, the legendary rapper Kendrick Lamar returned with his first album since 2017’s ‘DAMN’.

His latest double-album offering ‘Mr Morale and the Big Steppers’ released to widespread critical acclaim and was the biggest album release of 2022 until the release of ‘Harry’s House’ by Harry Styles.

Lady Gaga: Chromatica (2020) – 274,000

The iconic pop-star Lady Gaga made a triumphant return back in 2020 with her first studio album since 2016’s ‘Joanne’.

Despite featuring heavily on the 2018 soundtrack album for ‘A Star Is Born’, Gaga fans were craving another studio album and were gifted with ‘Chromatica’, a concept album that takes Gaga back to her classic dance-pop roots.

With these fantastic comeback releases listed, is it possible for Beyonce to outsell Adele and attain the top spot for the biggest recent comeback release?
