Batgirl Gets Cancelled by New HBO Executives

Batgirl Gets Cancelled by New HBO Executives

It’s common to see a movie getting “killed,” even after it has been greenlit by the studio or a streaming service. But what isn’t that common, is for it to get it canceled when it’s almost ready to go —and that’s exactly what happened to Batgirl; 90 million and many months of hard work later, the movie just got axed under the new CEO David Zaslav.

HBO Max declined to provide further comment. HBO did state that “it did not have what the audiences expected from a DC fare and it would not recoup its investment from being released,” leaving people to speculate on their own – and the internet is really good at that. Is it because a Latina was the lead? Was it really that bad?

Adam B Vary and Brent Lang noted in Variety that the decision would allow them to take a tax write-down. Several shows including Gordita Chronicles, Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, The Last OG, and Chad have been canceled since the Warner Bros Discovery merger.

Batgirl herself, Leslie Grace,  has broken the silence of Instagram stating:

“On the heels of the recent news about our movie Batgirl, I am proud of the love, hard work, and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over seven months in Scotland. I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every Batgirl fan — THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, ‘my own damn hero!”

How did you take the news?
