Bad Bunny Makes History with First #1 Record in Spanish

Can you imagine coming from a small island and aspiring to do things no one has ever done before in the music industry and beyond…and then actually accomplishing those feats?! Well Bad Bunny is out here doing just that. El Conejo Malo made history yet again, becoming the first to ever have a No. 1 billboard album ENTIRELY IN SPANISH! In the 62 years of Billboard chart history, there has never been an all-Spanish album at the number 1 spot.

According to the billboard chart history, the only other number 1 albums included Selena’s, “Dreaming of You” (1995) and Il Divo’s, “Ancora” (2006) which were mostly sung in Spanish but included English songs as well. There have been four all-Spanish-language albums that previously debuted in the Top 5 (but didn’t reach No. 1) which include Bad Bunny’s “YHLQMDLG,” Mana’s “Amar es Combatir,” and Shakira’s “Fijación Oral: Vol. 1.”

His 3rd album titled ‘El Último Tour del Mundo’ rattled fans across the world on Thanksgiving night, while rumors swirled the internet that this would be Benito’s final album and that he was retiring. We just hope to see him continue releaseing sneakers, fighting on Wrestlemania and gracing the Met Gala red carpet.

Why did they think that?
Well, on the last track of his last album, ‘Yo Hago Lo Que Me De La Gana,’ Bad Bunny said himself that he would release another album 9 months from the release of ‘YHLQMDLG’ and then retire…
“Y en nueve mese‘ vuelvo y saco otro / Pa‘ retirarme tranquilo como Miguel Cotto,”
Here we are… 9 months later with another dope album and worried…but fear not, Bad Bunny took to the internet to calm his fans down and reassure them that he would not be retiring.

Bad Bunny for Vulture
The 26-year-old Puerto Rican rapper has done some incredible things this year. Despite testing positive for COVID just a few weeks ago, forcing him to cancel his AMA performance, that did not stop him from virtually performing on SNL and The Late Show with James Corden. Not to mention, he was named Spotify’s most-streamed artists of 2020! Oh, and how could we forget El Conejo Malo’s acting debut coming soon in Narcos: Mexico S3! This dude just does not stop and he truly deserves everything he gets (and I’m not just saying that because I’m a HUGE fan and partial because I’m Puerto Rican lol)!
We’re kicking off #2020Wrapped by surprising Bad Bunny with the good news: @sanbenito is @Spotify’s most-streamed artist of 2020! Listen to the full reveal on the “For the Record” podcast. https://t.co/krzYkt4mpZ pic.twitter.com/WgRUbpYRJu

By now we should be used to Benito making history- but to be honest, we’ll never get over it! <3 He’s ready to win the lifetime achievement award just like Selena at the GRAMMYs!
CONGRATULATIONS BAD BUNNY!
