Farewell ‘Gentefied’: Catch our Latest Interview with the Cast!

Just two months after the launch of Gentefied’s second season, the news was out that the acclaimed Netflix series will not have a third season.

We talked to the cast of the show during its red carpet premiere, but also, got a chance to catch up with Annie Gonzalez and Julissa Calderón who shared some gems about being Latinas in the entertainment industry, which is very cut throat.

“It never stops! I don’t think we ever arrive even when we’re here sitting with you. There’s so many other things, there’s so many other mountains that we wanna climb,” Annie Gonzalez told LATV.

Catch a clip of the interview below and stay tuned for the full interview soon on American Latino TV.

How do we break barriers in the industry?

This exchange is happening. Let’s continue this conversation of it continuing to happen. The barriers are going to be there, why do we gotta keep looking at them?

I’m looking at the top of that mountain. Everything else down here is all semantics. I see myself right there. I’m gonna do it.

How do we keep motivated?

Keep your eye on that price. If you want it, go for it. And the more that we talk like that, the more that we are that. And the more that we are, it’s easier for someone to see it and say “Oh, pero if she’s doing it, I can”… and not “why her?” vs. a “how?” “I wanna do that too.”

Leave the door open for other women

So, we have to keep doing that and I think the biggest thing I always say is ‘past that baton back’ Once we open the door and once we’re in it, I’m going to I need to leave that door open for you and pass the baton back

“I think that it takes women like us championing each other, rooting for each other and allowing us to understand that we are great by ourselves and we are greater together. And that takes away from no one.”

What does it mean to be a Latina in Hollywood?

I think we need to get that out of our sphere that it’s more difficult because we’re women and because we’re women of color. I think it’s already apparent, we know it’s there, we don’t need to keep looking at it and talking about it.
