Ángela Aguilar’s Path to the 2024 Latin Grammys

Ángela Aguilar has had one of her career’s busiest and most impactful years. As the Latin Grammy Awards approach, Ángela is nominated for Best Album of the Year for “Bolero” and Best Mexican Regional Song for “Por el contrario,” showing her influence and impact on the current Latin music scene.

Bolero is an album dedicated to classic romantic songs from Latin America, a genre often appreciated by older generations. However, Ángela has given these boleros a fresh take, allowing younger generations to connect with the music she grew up loving. Her renditions of “Somos Novios,” “Contigo en la Distancia,” and “Solamente una Vez” stand out as powerful, emotional interpretations that have brought the genre back into the spotlight.
Produced by her father, Pepe Aguilar, and released under the independent label Machin Records, the album was recorded in Cuba and is accompanied by breathtakingly beautiful videos filmed there. The entire creation process was captured into a 40-minute documentary, also titled “Bolero,” and was shown in a handful of movie theaters in Mexico. The film is also available for viewing on the artist’s YouTube channel.
For Ángela, this project was a dream fulfilled. She’s shared her deep gratitude for the recognition, calling Bolero a “dream come true” that connects her musical roots to her present.
“I grew up listening to boleros, and to be able to bring this music to new generations and be recognized in such an important category is an indescribable honor,” she shared on her socials just last month.

A decade in music
Beyond her Grammy nominations, Ángela celebrated another milestone: 10 years as a solo artist. In honor of her career, the Mexican Consulate in Houston opened a special exhibit titled “Ángela Aguilar: 10 Años Cantando y Vistiendo a México.”
The exhibit includes 25 of her iconic outfits, each a visual testament to her cultural pride and artistry. From her debut singing “La Chancla” as a child to her more recent performances of “En Realidad” and “Ahí Donde Me Ven,” each outfit has become a part of her identity as a performer, telling a story of her journey, from short, playful dresses in music videos to elegant, embroidered gowns inspired by traditional Mexican styles. The exhibit is interactive, too, allowing visitors to scan QR codes and watch her performances, adding a modern touch to this retrospective of her career.

Ángela Aguilar and Christian Nodal
And while her professional life reached new heights, Ángela’s personal life has also been an incredible journey this year. Her relationship with fellow musician Christian Nodal became public just a few months ago, creating quite a buzz among fans and the media alike. Though their connection dates back to their 2020 duet “Dime Cómo Quieres,” life had its way of putting their romance on hold.
This year, however, they picked up right where they left off. Their relationship became official, and just a month after announcing it publicly, the couple surprised everyone by getting married in a private ceremony at Hacienda San Gabriel de las Palmas in Morelos, a breathtaking historic venue surrounded by lush gardens and ancient architecture.

Their marriage was a private affair, shared with close friends and family, allowing the two to celebrate their commitment away from the public eye. Despite the media attention and past speculations, both Ángela and Christian have emphasized the respect and love they share for each other. Nodal, who recently ended his relationship with Cazzu, expressed in interviews that their relationship had naturally come to an end, and his bond with Ángela grew from the friendship they had always shared. For Ángela, this marriage is not just about love but also about the continuity of her family’s legacy in Mexican music, which she shares with Christian as another leading figure in the genre.
