American Latino TV: Celebrating Afro-Latino Movers and Shakers

American Latino TV has been celebrating American Latino pride for over two decades now! On this year’s Black History Month special, we focus on the African roots of some of the most in-demand artists on the planet. An award-winning chef, an actor and musician, a psychologist changing the world, and a dancer/actress/activist who are becoming leading Latinos in their respective industries.
Kicking things off is Afro-Cuban actor and musician Angelo Diaz, who can be seen captivating audiences in the hit streaming crime series, ATL Homicide. On the film front, Diaz recently made his big screen debut opposite Taylour Paige in the highly anticipated film Zola, which premiered at Sundance to rave reviews. He is also succeeding on the short film festival circuit as a director. Born in Miami and based in Atlanta, Angelo was raised by a Cuban Mother and Ethiopian Father, and seeks to break many stereotypical casting molds.
Chef Nelson German is a Top Chef fan favorite born and bred in Manhattan’s Washington Heights. Nelson began his incredible career in New York City at the popular seafood destination, Joseph’s Cita-rella, as well as at the Gramercy Park Hotel. After graduating from culinary school, Nelson became Executive Chef at prestigious hot spots like Jerry’s Café. Then, in 2010, Nelson moved to Northern California where he continued his entrepreneurial journey by opening several more restaurants, including a Bay Area favorite seafood spot called ALaMar, along with a tribute to his Dominican roots, a chic Afro-Latino cocktail bar called Sobre Mesa.
And last, but not least – born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Veroshk Williams is the therapist we didn’t know we needed. Holding a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a degree in Spanish Literature, Dr. Williams has coordinated research projects at one of Harvard University’s psychiatric hospitals, plus she has a diploma in Therapeutic Hypnosis… but above all of her academic achievements, Dr. Veroshk is dedicated to helping others navigate different mental health issues, and beyond that, her social media posts are helping thousands of people on a daily basis.
To wrap up the show, dancer and actor Melany Centeno sits down with our host Carolina Trejos to chat all things culture, history and Latina lifestyle.
