WATCH | Meet Alberto Belli: Disney Director and Father | The Big Deal

Lights, camera, action! Get ready to dive into the fascinating world of Mexican-Italian director Alberto Belli. In a new episode of The Big Deal, we sat down with Alberto for a heart-to-heart chat about his most important journey —not a blockbuster movie or a TV series—but something much more challenging and rewarding: fatherhood.
Who is Alberto Belli?
Meet Alberto Belli, the man who traded in computer science engineering for the magic of storytelling. Hailing from Mexico, this director made the bold decision to move to Los Angeles to pursue his MFA at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, snagging the coveted John Huston directing merit scholarship along the way. But Alberto’s journey doesn’t stop there; his passion for storytelling has catapulted him into the limelight, earning recognition at esteemed film festivals such as SXSW, HollyShorts, and Cannes Lions.
Besides having the brain of a computer scientist, he’s also the creative force behind Disney’s new Christmas movie, “The Naughty Nine.” Imagine an action-packed holiday movie that’s equal parts thrilling and heartwarming – that’s Alberto’s masterpiece.
But “The Naughty Nine” is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Belli’s diverse portfolio. From commercials that make you laugh out loud to TV episodes that keep you glued to the screen, he’s done it all. Oh, did we mention his feature debut, “Gatlopp”? This fantasy/comedy gem about a supernatural drinking game hit HBO Max at number 8 worldwide with excellent reviews.
And let’s not forget his work on TV. Netflix’s La Casa de las Flores and Amazon’s Upload bear his directorial stamp. Currently, he’s got some exciting projects cooking up at Sony and Amazon, with none other than Norman Lear and Brent Miller producing.
Fatherhood
In our recent interview with Belli, we delved into the territory of fatherhood. With one kid already in tow and another on the way, Alberto spilled the beans on the chaos and joy that comes with being a parent. “It’s fun and it’s crazy, and more difficult than you ever think it will be,” he shared with our hosts.
Alberto shared his first-month parenting woes, saying, “I was like, ‘What’s going on? You don’t sleep at all. Kids don’t sleep on their own. I thought you put them down, and they sleep. That’s the hardest part, making them fall asleep.”
