2021 Inauguration Moments that Will Go Down in Women’s History

What we witnessed during Inauguration Day 2021 can be described as a truly multicultural America, and President Biden is right in the middle of it. Today we start a new chapter.
Joseph Biden, who served as Vice President to Barack Obama —the first Black president of the United States— was sworn into office today during a ceremony that was abnormal due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, that did not take away from it being an emotional one for all Americans, but particularly for women who said: PRESENTE!
As we tuned in to today’s events, we also saw HERstory being made.
Biden’s VP, Kamala Harris is the first woman and first person of color to serve as Vice President, a historic moment that will live in our hearts forever. And that’s not all…
Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina to reach the Supreme Court, was in charge of swearing in the first female Vice President of color in United States history.

The moment Lady Gaga appeared on the scene, she was a bit nervous and visibly excited, but seconds later, she took the golden mic and stunned the crowd singing a powerhouse rendition of “ The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Bronx native Jennifer López did something historic. ¡Tremenda! For the first time in the history of the United States during a presidential inauguration, words were heard in another language. JLo left a message EN ESPAÑOL for all Latinos. “Una Nación, bajo Dios, indivisible, con libertad y justicia para todos.”
National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman also left us speechless with her indescribably gorgeous poem.
“We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it, would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy,” she declared. “And this effort very nearly succeeded. But while democracy can be periodically delayed, it can never be permanently defeated.”
And did Michelle Obama, Kamala Harris, and Hillary Clinton call each other up before to make sure they were all wearing purple? In case you missed it, purple is considered a ‘bipartisan’ color, a mix of the political parties’ colors, blue and red.
It was a great day! Hope you are as excited as we are. Welcome to the Biden-Harris era.
