10 Things To Help You Stay Grounded

10 Things To Help You Stay Grounded

It’s tempting to get caught up and lose track in all the twists and turns life can bring. However, it’s important to stay true to yourself and your roots – because let’s face it, a grounded tree is the one that grows the strongest branches. Here are 10 steps that can help you achieve those deep roots:

1. Live simply and live deliberately. By choosing not to get caught up in the minutia of this fast-paced world, you are doing your part to slow down the consumerist rat race. You will also discover that you have more time, rather than things, to enjoy.

2. Stay in touch with yourself. Meditation, praying and journaling are just a few of the many activities you can take part in to learn as much as you can about the most interesting person you’ll ever meet: you!

3. Be kind to others.  Everyone is fighting battles you know nothing about and you never know to what extent a kind gesture can help another person. This gives you an opportunity to make the world a better place – don’t miss that!

4. Be selective about what you will consume. You don’t just eat food. You eat emotions, and the media bombards us with visions of hate, war, and pain, all the time. Be judicious about what you read, watch, and listen to because that will affect your psyche and your mood.

5. Be grateful for the beauty that exists around you. Beauty exists even in the ugliest places. Find it. Whether you live in a sprawling metropolis or in the woods, there are natural and man-made wonders alike just waiting to be discovered!

6. Nurture your ties to your tribe. If you don’t have one, create one. We’re not meant to go through life on our own. Find your tribe and love them hard and you’ll regain a sense of belonging. Because remember, home is where your people are.

7. Accept other perspectives. Remember that the way you choose to live is not the only way to live. Widen your perspective by exploring other modes of being through research, travel, and discussion.

8. Embrace the challenges. Life will present you with many. Don’t see them as obstacles but as a tool to make you grow. And if life doesn’t give you enough, challenge yourself often.

9. Move your body. In this busy world, it can be easy to live a sedentary life. Movement is flow. Move, walk, dance…

10. Make “me” time. The world can be noisy, and we are subject to all kinds of noises nearly every waking hour. We are also often “on the go” and unable to relax. Being alone in a peaceful place can help you to calm all the voices in your head and stay in touch with your true self.

Namasté!
